Deadliest Roads in Greater Houston: Do you know where the most fatal vehicle accidents happen?

A five-year review of federal crash data shows that I-45 had more fatal crashes than any other road in Greater Houston. From 2020 through 2024, NHTSA’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System recorded 279 fatal crashes on I-45, including its Gulf Freeway, North Freeway, ramps and frontage roads. Those crashes killed 293 people.
Across the three-county region, all roads combined saw 3072 fatal crashes that killed 3266 people. The 16 roads on this list each had at least 5 fatal crashes and together accounted for 1145 of them, or 37% of the area total. I-10 ranked second with 160 fatal crashes and 170 deaths, followed by I-69 with 159 crashes and 169 deaths.
