Harris County received a one-year extension to use federal funds for delayed post-Hurricane Harvey flood bond projects. Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced the extension Monday, extending the deadline for completing the projects to 2028. Before the extension, Harris County was on track to miss six of 11 flood mitigation projects facing funding deadlines early next year, jeopardizing more than $245 million. The projects were authorized by voters in 2018 as part of a $2.5 billion bond. An update on which existing contracts may qualify for additional time is due to Commissioners Court on Oct. 15.
