American Express plans to nearly triple the size of its Centurion Lounge at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, growing it from 8,000 to 23,000 square feet and adding dining, bar and wellness features.

American Express plans to nearly triple the size of its Centurion Lounge at George Bush Intercontinental Airport, growing it from 8,000 to 23,000 square feet and adding dining, bar and wellness features. The company announced it in an Oct. 8 news release and expects the project to be finished by 2028.

The renovated lounge will stay in Terminal D at IAH. Houston Airport System Director of Aviation Jim Szczesniak called it an investment in the traveler experience and said the airport system is proud to continue its partnership with American Express.

New features include a second full-service bar with craft cocktails and a curated wine selection, plus a new Blue Roast by American Express Coffee and Wellness Bar. A specialty dining area will serve rotating plated dishes inspired by Houston's culinary scene, alongside the lounge's signature buffet.

American Express also plans to refresh restrooms, add premium shower suites and offer a wider variety of seating areas. The company said the upgrades are aimed at giving eligible card members a more modern space before departure.

The Houston project is part of a wider Centurion Lounge expansion. American Express plans to open a new lounge at Newark Liberty Airport and a second lounge at London Heathrow Airport, while also expanding and upgrading its existing lounge at Philadelphia International Airport.

Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, said the company is investing in lounges card members already use while continuing to open new locations. She singled out Philadelphia, Houston and London as the next places where travelers will see those changes.

The announcement comes as IAH remains one of the region's busiest travel hubs. The expanded lounge will serve eligible American Express card members flying through Terminal D and should be finished by 2028.
