A YouTuber known as Captain Crunch was stabbed from behind while livestreaming at a Clear Lake public boat ramp, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
A fishing YouTuber who goes by Captain Crunch Boats was stabbed from behind while recording a 75-minute livestream at the Clear Lake Parks public boat ramps on NASA Parkway, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said. He suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital. The suspect, whose face was not clearly captured on video, also slashed the tires of another fisherman's truck that resembled the YouTuber's vehicle, and remains unidentified.
A fishing YouTuber who goes by Captain Crunch Boats was stabbed from behind over the weekend while recording boaters at a public dock in the Clear Lake area, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The attack happened at the Clear Lake Parks public boat ramps along NASA Parkway, a spot where Captain Crunch regularly sets up to film fishermen and boaters launching their vessels. He is a familiar presence there, known for livestreaming hours of dock activity for his YouTube audience.
The entire episode was caught on camera. Captain Crunch was in the middle of a 75-minute livestream when the attack occurred, and that footage is now part of the sheriff's office investigation. Near the end of the recording, he can be heard arguing with several boaters he was filming. At one point he waves off a departing driver, calling out "See you later, Karen!" The exchange continues briefly with another woman before the camera abruptly falls to the ground.
Investigators say that is the moment an unknown person approached Captain Crunch from behind and stabbed him. The livestream captured bystanders yelling for the attacker to stop. Some of the same boaters he had just been arguing with rushed in to help, their voices audible on the recording calling for someone to "get off" him and shouting for assistance.
Harrison Woods, a fishing guide who sees Captain Crunch at the dock nearly every day, said the way the attack unfolded suggested it was not random.
"It seems like the stabbing was personal because if you watch the video, the guy comes from behind him," Woods said.
The suspect is also accused of slashing the tires of a black truck belonging to another fisherman at the dock. That fisherman told reporters his truck looks nearly identical to the one Captain Crunch drives, and he believes the attacker targeted the wrong vehicle.
Captain Crunch suffered minor injuries in the stabbing and was released from the hospital afterward. He has posted about the incident on social media and told followers he plans to share a full update.
Woods said regulars at the boat ramp were rattled by the attack on someone they see as a fixture of the dock.
"He's always out here. I come out here about seven days a week. He's very friendly, just recording, just getting entertainment from the boat ramp," Woods said.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office says investigators have obtained video that may show the suspect but have not yet found a clear shot of the person's face. Deputies are working to pull additional footage from the area, including from other boaters who may have been filming or from nearby security cameras, to try to identify the attacker.
The Clear Lake Parks boat ramps see heavy foot and boat traffic on weekends. Woods said arguments between boaters over launch lanes and parking happen there from time to time, but this one was different because it turned into a stabbing caught live on camera.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the suspect or the stabbing to come forward. No arrests had been announced as of Monday night, and the case remains under investigation.
