Houston Zoo offers $7.13 tickets July 11-13 for 713 Day weekend
The Houston Zoo will sell $7.13 admission tickets Saturday, July 11 through Monday, July 13 for 713 Day weekend. The zoo also will offer a $35 limited-edition ballcap bundle and collect retired small electronics during the event.
The zoo said the $7.13 tickets must be bought in advance online at houstonzoo.org.
Visitors can also purchase a $35 713 Day Ballcap Bundle. The package includes a limited edition 713 Day hat, one admission to TXU Energy presents Mythical Realms and one carousel ride. The zoo said the bundle does not include the $7.13 admission ticket, which is sold separately.
During the weekend, the zoo will collect retired small electronics at a box near its main entrance. Accepted items include cell phones, tablets, smartwatches and wireless headphones. The zoo said laptops, large appliances and alkaline batteries will not be accepted.
Participants in the electronics drive will be entered to win an original painting made by the zoo’s cougars, Shasta VII and Louie, or by an Attwater’s prairie chicken. The zoo said small electronics contain coltan, a mineral mined in ways that damage habitat for chimpanzees, gorillas and okapi in central Africa.
713 Day recognizes Houston’s original telephone area code, established in 1947. The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last admission at 4 p.m.
