League City Council votes to remove 55 Flock cameras if voters reject them Nov. 3

League City Council voted unanimously Oct. 13 to remove all 55 Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras if voters reject their continued use in the Nov. 3 election.
The council placed the question on the ballot in August through a non-binding special election, but the new vote directs the city to remove the cameras if residents say no.
Council member Andy Mann said he supports the cameras but pledged to act on the election outcome.
“Let me preface this by saying, I support the cameras,” Mann said. “Having said that, if the citizens don’t want them, we are going to rip them out of the ground.”
League City Police Department officials said the cameras have assisted in more than 300 criminal investigations.
The cameras are automated license plate readers made by Flock Safety. If voters reject them, city officials said all 55 cameras will be taken down.
The Nov. 3 vote will decide whether the city keeps the system or pulls it from the streets.
